Walk For Water Selwyn/Waikirikiri

Walk For Water Selwyn/Waikirikiri

Why?
This event is happening because the river is sick. You can no longer swim or take your pets down to the river and drink and play in what used to be the clear, fish friendly Waikirikiri river. A group of local Selwyn people decided they wanted a change and to highlight the issue because it is local elections soon.

Who can go?
Anybody can come and give it a go any day at any time.

Where?
The event starts at Glentunnel and ends at Te Waihora. It takes 4 days so why don’t you come down and Walk For Water, also follow the facebook page by clicking on this Link:Walk For Water Selwyn/Waikirikiri.
I have walked for the last three days which taken 50 and now it has come to an end with a very special ceremony  where the organising people stood up and reflected on the walk and talk about the river and what it used to be like.  Water was taken from the start of the Waikirikiri at Whitecliffs and carried down 65 km down to the cut. This is where the Waikirikiri meets Te Waihora and I was lucky enough, as the youngest walker, to pour this water into the lake with my pops who was the oldest.
